Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How can we help you?

We are always happy to answer your questions when discussing a proposed treatment. But we know there's a lot to consider, and you may have other questions that didn't come up during your appointment.

On this page, you'll find a few of the most common questions we hear. We always welcome you to call and speak to our dental team whenever you need more information—they are very knowledgeable and here to help!

Cleanings and Oral Hygiene

Regularly brushing and flossing your teeth is important because it removes plaque and tartar buildup.

Plaque is a sticky bacteria-filled film that builds up on your teeth from the foods and drinks you consume. Tartar is a buildup of hardened plaque that clings to your teeth.

A plaque and tartar buildup can cause cavities, early gum disease called gingivitis, and even advanced gum disease. Unfortunately, you can't remove tartar—also called calculus—with your brush and floss.

Only a dental hygienist can remove it using specialized instruments that protect your teeth and gums. This is why it's essential to pair your oral hygiene efforts with professional teeth cleanings at our Ontario, OR, dental office every six months.

Brush Twice a Day, Floss Once

Dahle Family Dentistry follows the guideline issued by the American Dental Association. That is, to brush at least twice a day for two minutes and floss once. Along with routine teeth cleanings, at-home oral hygiene goes a long way toward minimizing plaque and tartar buildup.

Of course, how well you brush and floss is as crucial as how often you brush. During your teeth cleanings, your hygienist will show you the proper techniques to ensure you get the most out of your efforts.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry offers solutions for any smile flaw that concerns you. Whether you want to whiten your teeth, address uneven spacing or wide gaps, or improve a tooth's shape or size, we offer the treatment to help you achieve your smile goals.

At Dahle Family Dentistry, we always look for the least invasive way to help you love your smile. Our goal isn't to create a Hollywood-style makeover but to create the perfect smile for you using the following treatments.

Professional Teeth Whitening

We are pleased to offer in-office teeth whitening and take-home kits with customized whitening trays. Either option removes tooth stains and discoloration and gives you a dramatically whiter and brighter smile.

Composite Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a procedure that uses the same tooth-colored composite material we use for our white fillings. We commonly recommend bonding to repair small chips, cover tooth staining, close gaps between teeth, and improve a tooth's shape or size. Bonding is a simple process, so we can often treat several teeth during one appointment.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers can correct a few cosmetic dental flaws or provide a dramatic smile makeover. Using veneers, we can even out tooth shape, size, and shade to create your dream smile. We can even use veneers to conceal slight tooth misalignment for a straighter appearance.

Dental Implants

To help you understand the benefit of dental implants, we’d first like to tell you a little about how they work.

A dental implant is a miniature titanium screw that acts as a replacement tooth root. Dr. Daniel places the implant surgically in the jawbone at our Ontario dental office, so you don’t have to visit a specialist.

As the implant heals, a process called osseointegration occurs, where bone grows around the implant to create a stable foundation. After several months of healing, our implant dentist attaches a dental crown (the part of the tooth you can see), so you can smile confidently and chew comfortably.

If you get multiple implants, we will use an implant bridge or implant denture to restore chewing function.

Dental Implant Benefits

Because the bone in your jaw holds the implant tooth securely in place, implants offer many benefits:

  • Looks, feels, and functions like a real tooth
  • Allows you to chew comfortably and eat all your favorite foods
  • Lasts a lifetime when you care for it properly
  • Helps your jawbone stay strong and healthy
  • Replaces one, several, or all missing teeth
  • Supports facial features for a more youthful appearance

Is a Dental Implant Right for You?

There are some requirements for getting an implant, such as having plenty of healthy bone in the area we want to place it. Our dentist in Ontario, OR, would be happy to meet with you so he can understand your dental situation and determine if an implant is right for you. Please call us at (541) 881-1794 to get started!

Family Dentistry

Yes, we love welcoming children of all ages to Dahle Family Dentistry! We recommend following the American Dental Association's guideline to bring children to the dentist when they get their first baby tooth but no later than age one.

Creating a Positive Experience for Your Child

Our goal with the first few appointments is to put children at ease and help them adjust to the new experience of visiting the dentist. They can get to know our amazing dental team and see us as friendly, caring people who want to help them.

It's also important for children to develop positive feelings about dental care that they can carry long into adulthood.

Baby Teeth Play an Important Role

We also want to ensure that baby teeth stay in good condition until they come out on their own. Baby teeth play a crucial role in your child's development, helping them learn to speak properly and chew solid foods. Baby teeth also hold a place for permanent teeth, allowing them to emerge properly and prevent crowding.

We Welcome Parents' Questions

When you bring your child in for an appointment, we encourage you to share your questions about their dental health. We are happy to provide support and education regarding brushing and flossing habits, diet and nutrition, and habits like bottle-feeding, thumb-sucking, and pacifier use.

Schedule Your Child's Next Dental Visit

We welcome children of all ages to our Ontario, OR, dental office, from toddlers to teens, and every age in between. If it's time for your little one's first-ever dental visit, or you have an older child who needs a custom sports mouthguard, we would love to meet them!

Please call us at (541) 881-1794 to schedule an appointment.

Sedation Dentistry

Yes, we offer sedation dentistry if you have dental anxiety or want a more comfortable experience at the dental office. We offer several options and will customize a solution to fit your unique needs and ensure you have a successful, relaxed visit.

Sedation Dentistry in Ontario, OR

Dental anxiety occurs for many reasons. You may have had a bad experience as a child, or maybe the sights and sounds of a dental office make you nervous. Maybe you have a young child who needs multiple procedures or has special needs.

Whatever the circumstance, we offer a level of sedation appropriate for almost anyone, including:

  • Nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas, provides mild relaxation that is safe and appropriate for all ages, including children. You will not “go to sleep” with nitrous, but you will feel calm and relaxed during your procedure. Nitrous oxide’s effects come on quickly and leave quickly, so you can usually drive yourself home from your appointment.
  • Oral conscious sedation involves taking a prescribed sedative an hour before your appointment. You will arrive at our dental office feeling drowsy and relaxed, and after your procedure, you may not remember much about your appointment. With oral sedation, you will need an escort to safely drive you to and from your appointment.
  • IV (intravenous) sedation dentistry is administered directly into the bloodstream via an IV for immediate effects. We use the services of a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) who administers the medication and monitors you throughout your appointment. You will sleep through your procedure and have no memory of what happened.

Is Sedation Dentistry Right for You?

Before we recommend sedation, we will carefully review your medical history and list of medications. We want you to be safe and comfortable and have the best possible experience.

Please call us at (541) 881-1794 to schedule an appointment or learn more about our sedation options.
